1550V V-Max Mini-Kits

Build the VW-powered 1550V V-Max in modular stages. Mini-Kits let you build one section at a time, spread out cost, and move from plans to real airframe progress without buying the full kit all at once.

Wing Rib Kit Options

The Wing Rib Kit is different from the Wing Assembly Kit. The Wing Rib Kit covers the ribs. The Wing Assembly Kit covers spars, fittings, hardware, and wing structure components used to assemble the wing after the ribs are built.

  • Raw Materials: materials and templates to build the wing ribs yourself.
  • Laser Cut Gussets: a time-saving rib kit option with laser cut gussets.
  • Prebuilt Wing Ribs: prebuilt wing ribs for builders who want to save time on one of the most repetitive parts of the wing build.

Mini-Kit Pricing

Pricing is based on ideal retail value with no waste, then discounted 10% for the Mini-Kit buying path. Prices in this import should be reviewed before publishing.

Important

Mini-Kits are aircraft components and materials, not completed aircraft. Engine, propeller, covering, paint, instruments, avionics, inspection, registration, certification, training, and assembly labor are separate unless specifically listed.

What's Included

Mini-Kits let you stage your 1550V V-Max build and spread out cost — order the airframe sections you need and move from plans to real airframe progress without buying a full kit all at once.

  • Order individual airframe sections (for example wing rib kits and wing assembly kits).
  • Choose the material level where offered — raw materials, laser-cut gussets, or prebuilt wing ribs.
  • Combine sections over time to complete the airframe at your own pace.

Not included unless listed

Engine, propeller, instruments, avionics, battery, wiring, covering, paint, upholstery, shipping, assembly labor, registration, certification, inspection, and training are not included unless the product page or invoice specifically says so.

Build Time & Skill Level

Estimated build time depends on the kit level you choose and your experience. Prefab wing ribs and prefab metal parts meaningfully reduce build time.

  • Base kit build time: 325-400 Hours
  • Prefab quick-build kit build time: 250-300 Hours

This is an amateur-built, wood-and-fabric aircraft designed for hands-on homebuilders. Typical skills:

  • Basic woodworking, measuring, and drilling
  • Riveting and assembly of metal parts
  • Epoxy work and fabric covering
  • No welding or advanced machining required for a standard build

Mini-Max USA builder-assist support is available to help you finish.

Part 103 & Experimental

The 1550V V-Max is typically completed and licensed as an Experimental Amateur-Built (E-AB) aircraft. Under the FAA 'major portion' (51%) rule, a homebuilt aircraft you build for education and recreation can receive a special airworthiness certificate in the Experimental Amateur-Built category.

  • N-number registration and an airworthiness inspection are required before first flight.
  • The builder of the major portion may apply for a Repairman Certificate for that aircraft.
  • May be flown by Sport Pilot or Private Pilot certificate holders, depending on the aircraft and pilot.
  • A low-cost, wood-and-fabric homebuilt — a practical way to build and fly your own airplane and accumulate flight time affordably.

Final category, eligibility, and operating limitations depend on your build, documentation, inspection results, and applicable regulations. You are responsible for registration, certification, and legal operation. No listing statement is an FAA determination.
